A Journey for Salvation Feedback

Overview

Uttarakhand is the land of the sacred, one of the major Hindu pilgrimage destinations being Uttarakhand. Uttarakhand, home to Hindu pilgrimage sites such as Badrinath, Kedarnath and Panch Prayag, serves as a major religious Hindu destination in India. The high surrounding snow-capped mountains and dense forests protecting the holy shrines, devotees visit the state every year to dig into the place’s sanctity. One such major religious destination in Uttarakhand is Panch Prayag. Prayag is the name of the confluence of two holy rivers, and Uttarakhand is either a source of many holy rivers or a carrier. Prayag is a sacred place and thousands of pilgrims flock to these places to purify the soul and wash away their sins. While we all know about the Panch Prayag, there’s another confluence that’s equally mesmerizing, not so far from the Panch Prayag, it’s the Keshav Prayag. Together combined, they are called Six Prayag Yatra.

Devprayag – The holy site where river Alaknanda meets river Bhagirathi.

Rudraprayag – The holy site where river Alaknanda meets river Mandakini.

Karnaprayag – The holy site where river Alaknanda meets river Pinder.

Nandprayag – The holy site where river Alaknanda meets river Nandakini.

Vishnuprayag – The holy site where river Alaknanda meets river Dhauli Ganga.

Keshav Prayag – The holy site where river Alaknanda meets river Saraswati.

The legends say that as the Ganga descended on earth Lord Shiva, splitting it in different streams, formed and regulated the immense flow of Ganga. Upon passing Panch Prayag, the Ganga River begins, and the river runs down and washes the people’s sins. These Prayags are not just a religious shrine but also a testament to the beauty of the mother nature. Such religious sites, hidden on the top of the Himalayas, are some of Uttarakhand’s holiest natural areas. The fluid streams crash into each other at the confluence, creating the loudest moan you’d ever hear. The Prayag is revered throughout the world by pilgrims.
Apart from these 6 Prayag, Uttarakhand is also home to one of the holiest sites in Hindu religion, Badrinath. Badrinath town is famous for the Badrinath temple, part of the Char Dham Yatra. The Lord Vishnu’s temple is dedicated to it and every year devotees climb up the mountain before Lord Vishnu to bow.
